Solomon Permanently Appoints Linda Ivory-Green to Lead Jersey City Health and Human Services Department

JERSEY CITY—Mayor James Solomon has formally appointed Linda Ivory-Green as Director of Jersey City’s Department of Health and Human Services, solidifying her leadership after serving in an acting capacity over the past several months.

Ivory-Green, a longtime public health professional within Jersey City government, steps into the role with more than three decades of experience in community health and social services. Her appointment places a veteran insider at the helm of one of the city’s most expansive departments, which oversees a wide range of public health and human service programs.

According to the mayor’s office, Ivory-Green began her career with the city as a health educator and went on to serve in multiple roles, including as AIDS coordinator, social worker, and federal Food and Drug Administration tobacco inspector. Most recently, she held the position of Division Director of Community Health and Wellness.

City officials said the Department of Health and Human Services encompasses ten divisions responsible for delivering critical services, including public health initiatives, social support programs, and community-based wellness efforts across Jersey City.

In announcing the appointment, Solomon emphasized Ivory-Green’s institutional knowledge and longstanding service to the community.

“Linda has dedicated her career to improving the health and well-being of Jersey City residents,” the mayor said in a statement. “Her experience and leadership make her the right person to guide this department forward.”

The administration also pointed to Ivory-Green’s focus on expanding access to care and addressing disparities in underserved communities as central to her leadership approach.

Ivory-Green holds academic credentials from New Jersey City University and has participated in national public health leadership programs, according to the city.

Her appointment comes as part of broader efforts by the Solomon administration to finalize leadership roles across key municipal departments.

No City Council confirmation vote was immediately announced in connection with the appointment.
