New Jersey General Assembly, 9th Legislative District
Brian E. Rumpf is a Republican member of the New Jersey General Assembly, representing since 2003 the 9th Legislative District, which includes Barnegat Township, Little Egg Harbor Township, Long Beach Township, Ocean Gate, and Tuckerton. He also serves as the Assembly Republican Budget Officer, a position he assumed in January 2026. Born in Somerville, Rumpf grew up in New Jersey and earned his bachelor's degree in politics from The Catholic University of America in 1986 and his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1989. He and his wife Debra are law partners at the firm Rumpf, Rumpf and Reid in Tuckerton.
Prior to his legislative service, Rumpf served on the Little Egg Harbor Township Committee from 1997 to 2005, including three years as Mayor from 2000 to 2003. He was selected by a special Republican convention in June 2003 to fill a vacancy in the Assembly created by the resignation of Assemblyman Jeffrey Moran, who accepted appointment as Ocean County Surrogate. Rumpf previously served as Assembly Republican Policy Co-Chair from 2014 to 2023 and as Minority Parliamentarian from 2024 to 2025 before assuming his current budget leadership role.
