New Jersey General Assembly, 29th Legislative District
Eliana Pintor Marin is a Democratic member of the New Jersey General Assembly, representing the 29th Legislative District (East Newark and most of Newark) since 2013. She also serves as Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, one of the most powerful positions in the state legislature.Born and raised in Newark's East Ward, she is the daughter of first-generation Portuguese factory workers and the first in her family to graduate from college. She attended St. Benedict's Preparatory School and Mother Seton Regional High School before earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees from St. John's University in New York.
Prior to her legislative service, she worked on Wall Street in investment banking and subsequently served as Division Manager of Passports and Vault Recording in the Essex County Clerk's Office. She also served on the Newark Board of Education Advisory Board from 2008 to 2014. Pintor Marin was appointed to the Assembly in September 2013 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Alberto Coutinho and has since been re-elected multiple times. She resides in Newark's Ironbound neighborhood with her husband Anthony and daughter Amelia.
