New Jersey General Assembly, 2nd Legislative District
Maureen Rowan represents New Jersey's 2nd Legislative District in the General Assembly, which encompasses Atlantic County communities including Atlantic City, Brigantine, Egg Harbor Township, Galloway, Hamilton, Linwood, Longport, Margate, Northfield, Pleasantville, Port Republic, Somers Point, Absecon and Ventnor. First elected in 2025 and sworn in on January 13, 2026, Rowan is the first Democratic woman to represent Atlantic County in the New Jersey Legislature and the third woman overall to represent the district.
Prior to her legislative service, Rowan practiced law for nearly 30 years in Philadelphia, where she owned and operated her own law firm. She moved to Atlantic County approximately seven years before her 2025 election. The 2025 election marked her first bid for public office.
Rowan's election made the 2nd District one of only three districts in New Jersey with split party representation, serving alongside Republican Don Guardian. She defeated incumbent Republican Claire Swift by 193 votes over her Democratic running mate Joanne Famularo, becoming one of four Democratic challengers to unseat a Republican incumbent in 2025.
