William J. Martini is a senior United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey. He was appointed to the federal bench in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate. He assumed senior status in 2015.
Before his judicial appointment, Martini had a career spanning law, public service, and elected office. He worked as an assistant prosecutor in Hudson County and later as an assistant United States attorney for the District of New Jersey. He also practiced law privately prior to his judicial service.
Martini previously served in elected office as a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District from 1995 to 1997. He also served on the Clifton City Council and the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
